About me

// Updated on May 27, 2008
I grew up in a small town in Germany called Nordwalde. My whole life changed when I came to the U.S.A. as an exchange student for the 93/94 school year. I spent that year in Southern California, living with a host family and attending high school. I liked it and wanted to come back, but first I had to finish school in Germany.

In 1996 I won a greencard in the visa lottery. I went back to Southern California and started a new life. That new life included college. In 2000 I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Economics.

I quickly learned that Economics wasn't the right choice because I didn't want to be a number cruncher. Luckily I found myself moving to Virginia shortly after graduation for - let's just say - personal reasons, and I was forced to reevaluate my career choices and, most importantly, find a new job.

After a couple of months of considering going to back to school for something completely different and applying for any and all jobs between interior design and accounting, I finally got a job at Boxer Learning. Boxer was using Flash to create math tutorials for kids. Once I got my hands on Flash, I never let go. A year later I started a job as a Flash developer at the University of Virginia.

When I relocated to San Francisco in 2002, I took my job at UVa with me. After telecommuting for nine months, I decided that I wanted to be around people again, so I accepted an offer from Macromedia as a QA Engineer on the Flash team. Since I couldn't imagine having a job that doesn't revolve around Flash, I figured that working for Macromedia would be perfect for me, and for a while it was.

But when Macromedia became Adobe in December 2005, I left the company. I am now working only for myself, doing spiritual counseling, driving a Green Cab, and doing freelance Flash coding and German translation.

Other than that, I also like to listen to birds, look at flowers, ride the bus, sit in coffee shops and take pictures. If you want to know more than that, check out my personal blog.
