Flash article in XML-Journal

Sometimes, when I'm at Barnes & Noble or Borders browsing all the geek magazines, I think to myself "It sure would be nice to have a journal all about Flash." While there are plenty of articles, tutorials, blogs, etc. to read online, it would be great to have physical volumes that I can subscribe to and receive in the mail every month or so. Well, this month we are one tiny step closer to that: XML-Journal this month features an article titled XML & Macromedia Flash MX: Build rich interfaces that interact seamlessly with back-end data by Macromedia's Paul Gubbay, formerly CEO of Cybersage, the company behind the data-aware FireFly Components. This article is mentioned on the front cover! Perusing all the tech magazine covers at the bookstore has suddenly become much more satisfying. Why hasn't Flash gained more penetration in the print media?

I don't know about you but sometimes when I am coding, I act very irrationally. I hit the Save icon three or more times after fixing a particularly pernicious bug. I am figuring that after I have put in that much work to save one bug, I want to be extra sure the file is saved, so that I don't have to ever chase that bug again. So I hit the Save icon immediately. And again. And again. And maybe again.

Do you ever get irrational while coding?

Bit-101 won the Flash Film Festival for the Experimental category! This makes me very happy. It's great to see his hard work rewarded. Congratulations, Keith!

P.S.: Kristin wrote a great limerick to congratulate Keith.

Once again, Flash Forward 2003 is happening, this time in New York City. Once again, I really wish I was there but there are three reason why I couldn't make it this time:

1. I hate flying.
2. It would have taken at least five days to drive to New York City.
3. The last Flash Forward was only three months ago, and I am still reeling from that.

Sessions I am most sad to be missing:

Claus Wahlers - Flash and XML. Claus loves XML even more than he does Flash, and I am open to let him convince me. Maybe.
Nigel Pegg - Components Dissected. I can never get enough of components. Components are where it's at.
Josh Dura - ActionScript in Action: An Examination of Flash Applications. I have never met or heard Josh speak but I had a dream about him once, so why the hell not.
Greg Burch - Component Development, Inside and Out. More components. Plus, judging from his presence on the various messageboards, he seems to be a walking encyclopedia of all things ActionScript.

Hey, there'll be other Flash Forward's I can go to, right?
